    About B.Tech Marine Engineering

    Your Gateway to becoming a Chief Engineer of the Ship


    A 4-year residential programme approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The programme leads to a degree awarded by the Indian Maritime University, Chennai.

    This programme equips candidates with the technical expertise to manage and operate a ship’s core systems. Training includes ship construction and maintenance, propulsion systems, power generation, electrical systems, fuel and lubrication systems, water treatment, and HVAC.

    Outcome: Begin your career as a Marine Engineer onboard and progress through engineering ranks to Second Engineer and Chief Engineer.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Age: 25 years or lesser on the date of selection

    • Education:
      • 12th cleared within preceding 5 Years from date of selection
      • Minimum Physics-Chemistry-Maths (PCM) marks in 12th Std: 70 % (improvement exam results will not be considered).
      • Minimum English score in 12th Std: 70 % (improvement exam results will not be considered).
      • Not more than two years difference in the year of passing 10th and 12th exams, respectively.
      • The Marine Engineering graduation aggregate score not less than 70% or 7 CGPA

    • Physical Criteria:
      • Height: Minimum 160 centimetres.
      • BMI: not more than 25.
      • Speech and hearing ability to be within normal range.
      • Eyesight 6/9 un-aided and 6/6 with aid and no colour blindness.

    • Selection Process:
      • Computer based Test as created by FMTI
      • Personal Interview by appropriate panel
      • Medical as per applicable standards & Psychometric test
