About Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS)

Want to join the nautical department of merchant navy? DNS is one of the most popular programs that offers 100% job sponsorship post course completion.

You will undergo a 12-month residential Pre-sea training at IMI where you will specialize in Navigation, Seamanship, Ship Construction and Ship Stability, MARPOL and Marine Engineering.

Diploma in Nautical Science is awarded by the Indian Maritime University (IMU), which means you can undertake a 18-month onboard training comprising semester 3, 4 & 5 of BSc Nautical Science which is termed as Distance Learning Programme with Indian Maritime University (IMU) after course completion.

Eligibility Criteria

Age limit

20 years or less as of 1st July 2025 (born on or after 1st July 2005)

Education

12th cleared in 2024 or 2025 (appearing the board exams in 2025)
Not more than two years difference in the year of passing 10th and 12th exams respectively.

PCM %

Minimum Physics-Chemistry-Maths (PCM) marks in 12th Std: 70 % (improvement exam results will not be considered)

English

Minimum English score in 12th Std: 70 % (improvement exam results will not be considered)

Qualification

Candidates who have appeared for their 12th standard board exams via an Open Board, the NIOS board or through
distance learning are not eligible.
