    About Electro Technical Officer Program (ETO)

    Your Gateway to becoming a Ship’s Electro Technical Officer


    A DG Shipping-approved pre-sea training programme designed for candidates with an electrical or electronics background aiming to work in advanced maritime technology roles.

    The programme covers power generation and distribution, automation systems, navigation electronics, communication equipment, and troubleshooting of onboard electrical systems, with a strong focus on practical application.

    Outcome: Begin your career as an Electro Technical Officer onboard ships and progress towards senior technical roles within modern, technology-driven fleets.

    Eligibility Criteria

    The minimum criteria for selection of Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) are

    • Age: 27 years or less on the date of commencement of the course.

    • Education:
      • Candidates who have appeared for their B.E/BTech exams via an Open Board/University, or through distance learning are not eligible.
      • Minimum Physics-Chemistry-Maths (PCM) marks in 12th Std or Overall Diploma: 70 % (improvement exam results will not be considered)
      • Minimum English score in 10th or 12th Std/Diploma: 70 % (improvement exam results will not be considered)
      • Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication /Communication Engineering, Electronics, and Instrumentation or equivalent.
      • The Diploma/degree courses much have been recognised by any state or central Government or the AICTE.

    • Physical Criteria:
      • Height: Minimum 157 centimetres.
      • BMI: not more than 25.
      • Speech and hearing ability to be within normal range.
      • Eyesight 6/9 unaided and 6/6 with aid and no colour blindness.

    • Selection Process:
      • Computer based Test as created by FMTI
      • Personal Interview by appropriate panel
      • Medical as per applicable standards & Psychometric tests.
