IMI Celebrates 40 Graduating Cadets of Diploma in Nautical Sciences Batch 42 at Grand Passing-Out Ceremony

The International Maritime Institute (IMI) congratulated 40 cadets from the Diploma in Nautical Sciences Batch 42 in a passing-out ceremony on 13 December. This event marked the culmination of their rigorous training, equipping them for successful careers at sea.

Present during the occasion were Chief Guest Capt. Rajkumar Singh, Superintendent (Sr. Manager) – Training at Fleet Management Ltd., Capt. Saurabh Varshney, Head of Institute (HOI) at IMI, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Shukla, Registrar at IMI, faculty members, staff, and the cadets’ proud parents.

Congratulating the cadets on completing their training and embarking on their real-world maritime careers, Capt. Saurabh Varshney, HOI, IMI, highlighted that they have joined a noble profession of safeguarding cargo, lives, and the oceans. He noted that the cadets have joined the industry at a right time when the shipping industry’s growth is seen as a sunrise sector with cutting-edge technologies. He urged them to stay updated with industry changes, seek guidance from seniors when uncertain, prioritize safety in every decision, uphold honesty and diligence, and represent IMI and India with pride as global ambassadors.

Registrar Mr. Sanjay Kumar Shukla encouraged the cadets to strive for excellence in their chosen field. He shared inspirational lines from Douglas Malloch:
“If you can’t be a pine on the top of the hill, be a scrub in the valley – but be the best little scrub by the side of the rill; Be a bush if you can’t be a tree… It isn’t by size that you win or you fail—Be the best of whatever you are.”

Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Capt. Rajkumar Singh stressed bridging the gap between theory and practice through lifelong learning. He advised cadets to master the fundamentals, limit social media distractions for focused growth, deliver their best to excel, stay humble as future mentors, and always prioritise safety while honouring their parents.

Awards were presented to top-performing cadets in the following categories:

  • Best in Academics: Cadet Harsha Deva Sappa
  • Second Best in Academics: Cadet Jaskaran Singh
