Honouring Seafarers and Cadets: Celebrating Maritime Spirit at IMI Greater Noida

Every year on 25th June, the world commemorates the Day of the Seafarer, a global initiative by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to recognise the vital role of seafarers in keeping international trade moving. Often working behind the scenes in challenging environments — from storms to solitude — seafarers are the silent engines of the global economy. This year’s theme, “Seafarers’ contribution to making the maritime sector a safer workplace,” emphasizes not only their operational excellence but also their commitment to a safer, healthier, and more resilient future at sea.

At IMI Greater Noida, this global sentiment came alive during the Passing Out Parade (POP) on 11th June 2025 at IMI Campus 2D. The event marked a proud milestone for 43 B.Tech cadets (17th batch) and 153 DNS cadets (43rd batch) — including 9 trailblazing women cadets — who are ready to begin their maritime careers.

Graced by dignitaries like Capt R. Poswal (Nautical Surveyor cum DDG Technical, MMD Noida), Shri Kannan Soundarajan (Executive Director Technical, FML), Capt Somasundar Nair (Executive Director, FPD), and Capt Deepak Correa (COO, FML Mumbai), the ceremony reflected pride, professionalism, and promise.

The values of IMI Greater Noida — discipline, integrity, leadership, teamwork, and resilience — are not just taught but lived. These principles are absolutely central to a seafarer’s life. Whether navigating high seas, managing multicultural crews, or responding to emergencies, it is these very values that guide cadets every day on board.

As we salute the seafarers of today, we also celebrate the cadets who will carry forward this proud legacy tomorrow.

“ Remember that your strength lies not only in your skills, but in your character” !!
