IMI Celebrates Graduation of 184 Cadets at Passing Out Ceremony
The International Maritime Institute (IMI) organised a Passing Out Ceremony for Batch 18 of the B.Tech in Marine Engineering programme and Batch 43 of the Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS), marking the successful graduation of 184 cadets.
The ceremony celebrated the cadets’ academic achievements, discipline, and commitment, as they prepare to embark on professional careers in the maritime industry. The event was attended by proud parents, faculty members, and distinguished guests.
The ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Shri Deependra Singh Bisen, Deputy Director General of Shipping, DGMA, Guests of Honours Mr. Rajesh Kumar, Executive Director, Dry Bulk, Fleet Management Ltd., and Capt. Vishvesh Mehta, Director (Dry), Fleet Personnel Department. Mr. Tushar Sharma, Deputy General Manager, Fleet Management Ltd., was also present.
Welcoming the gathering, Capt. Saurabh Varshney, Head of Institute, IMI emphasised IMI’s commitment to maritime excellence and encouraged cadets to uphold integrity, teamwork, and resilience. “Carry with you the spirit of IMI — professionalism, accountability, and excellence. Wherever you sail, let your conduct reflect the discipline and dignity of this institution.” he said.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Deependra Singh Bisen congratulated the graduating cadets and described the occasion as a proud and memorable moment for both the cadets and their families. He remarked that the Passing Out Ceremony symbolised the successful culmination of years of hard work, perseverance, and maritime training, while also marking the beginning of a new journey of responsibility and service.
Speaking about the evolving maritime sector, he highlighted the rapid growth of India’s maritime industry and the increasing contribution of Indian seafarers globally. He also spoke about key initiatives undertaken by DG Shipping, including the development of a fully integrated digital maritime ecosystem under the e-Naavik project, digitisation of the CoC examination system, introduction of digital learning modules, and improved accessibility of oral examinations. Emphasising the importance of integrity, adaptability, and professionalism, he encouraged cadets to continue learning throughout their careers and contribute positively to the maritime community.
Mr. Rajesh Kumar advised graduating cadets to remain optimistic and committed to lifelong learning. Highlighting the importance of mental well-being at sea, he encouraged strengthening social interactions onboard. He also shared Fleet Management’s initiative of observing “no internet for two hours” to promote camaraderie among seafarers.
The ceremony featured cultural performances, including yoga demonstrations, singing, and dance, reflecting the holistic development of cadets beyond academics.
Outstanding cadets were honoured with medals, trophies, and certificates.
  • B.Tech Marine Engineering (Batch 18): Arsh Chambyal (1st), Avinash Kumar (2nd), Joshi Kashish Vipul (Best Shipmate), Rohan Kumar (Best Sportsperson Male), Dherya Kharbanda (Best All-Round Performance). Special recognition was awarded to Arsh Chambyal, Avinash Kumar, and Prince Kumar for developing a working model titled “Four-Ram Electro-Hydraulic Steering Gear.”
  • DNS (Batch 43): Fenil Mukesh Bhai Tandel (1st), Joy Alex Xavier (2nd), Abhay Pandey (Best Shipmate), Amit Bhati (Best Sportsperson Male), Hena (Best Sportsperson Female), Atharva Joshi (Excellence in Music & Culture), Abhi Suresh Kumar (Creative Arts), Ashutosh Baunthiyal (Debates & Elocution), Pranav Kumar Jatrana (Best All-Round Performance).
The ceremony concluded on a celebratory note, reaffirming IMI’s mission to develop competent and globally competitive maritime professionals.
