The International Maritime Institute (IMI) hosted its Annual Team Dinner under the theme “IMI-Caravel: New Beginnings,” commemorating one year since joining The Caravel Group. The evening brought together the IMI community and leadership from across the Group to reflect on a year defined by transition, alignment, and steady progress.
Capt. Somasundar Nair, Executive Director – Fleet Personnel Department, Fleet Management Ltd. in his address, described the evening as more than a celebration, it was a moment to recognise how far IMI has come in a short span of time. Over the past year, IMI has welcomed over 400 cadets, strengthened pathways into seafaring careers with Fleet Management Ltd., and continued to bridge the gap between training and real-world operations. He highlighted that investments in simulators, learning spaces, and curriculum are important milestones, but their true impact lies in how the faculty and staff bring them to life every day. He encouraged the team to take pride in the role they play in shaping not just skilled officers, but individuals ready to contribute with confidence, discipline, and sound judgement at sea.
Capt. Vishvesh Mehta, Director – Service Delivery (Dry), Fleet Personnel Department, Fleet Management Ltd. underscored the strong and evolving relationship between IMI and Fleet Management Ltd. As sister concerns under The Caravel Group, he noted that both institutions are aligned in their shared purpose of developing competent, confident, and future-ready maritime professionals. Congratulating the IMI team, staff, and students on the successful one year anniversary with the Caravel Group, he emphasized the importance of continuing to deepen collaboration in shaping the future of maritime training.
Capt. Saurabh Varshney, Head of the Institution, IMI reflected on the journey of the past year as one built on intent, effort, and collective ownership. He acknowledged the IMI team for their adaptability and commitment, highlighting that the institution’s strength lies in its people; those who continue to uphold standards while embracing change. He noted that IMI’s integration within a larger ecosystem now offers clearer pathways and greater responsibility, calling for a continued focus on raising standards and strengthening industry alignment.
The evening also recognised dedication and legacy, with seven employees felicitated for over two decades of service – an acknowledgment of the strong foundation on which IMI continues to grow.
The celebration further marked IMI’s refreshed brand identity, bringing it closer in alignment with The Caravel Group and Fleet Management Ltd., and reflecting a unified and forward-looking approach.
As IMI continues its journey with the Caravel Group, the focus remains on building on this foundation with clarity, collaboration, and a continued commitment to excellence in maritime training.
