New Delhi, April 5, 2023 – The 60th National Maritime Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour at the Major Dhyaan Chand Stadium in New Delhi. The event was organized with the theme of the year “Amrit Kaal in Shipping ” and aimed to promote the shipping industry and the maritime profession. The event was graced by eminent personalities from the Shipping industry, including Shri Sarbananda Sonowal Hon’ble Cabinet Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ministry of Ayush as chief guest, Shri Shripad Nayak Hon’ble Minister of state for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri Sudhansh Pant IAS Secretary Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri Rajesh Kumar Sinha IAS Additional Secretary Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri Sanjeev Ranjan IAS, Chairman National Shipping Board, Capt. Rajendra Poswal, Nautical Surveyor, Chairman National Maritime Day Celebration Committee Delhi Chapter.
The highlight of the event was the Maritime Awareness walkathon flagged off by Hon’ble Cabinet Ministers. Sailing and office staff from various shipping companies like Fleet ship Management, Carnival, MSC, V-ship, BMS, MSI, MMSI, MOL, Synergy, Executive Ship Management, Darya Wallem shipping, Dynacom, SCI, and various maritime institutes ARI, Aquatech, IMI, JSONS, and SRIRAM. The walkathon was a display of impressive discipline and coordination by 700 merchant navy cadets. The participants marched perfectly in formation, demonstrating their rigorous training and commitment to excellence. The cadets were accompanied by a skilled band from International Maritime Institute, whose performance added to the event’s grandeur. The atmosphere was electrifying as the cadets and the band worked together in perfect synchronization. Overall, the walkathon was a remarkable display of teamwork and professionalism by the merchant navy cadets.
As a part of National Maritime Week which was observed from 30th March to 5th April 2023 throughout the country, a sports meet was organized for cadets from various maritime institutes on 1st April, which was a grand success. The event was a fantastic opportunity for cadets to showcase their skills and abilities.The International Maritime team emerged as the overall champion in sports events, among the strong contenders like SRIRAM, JSONS, and Aquatech. The International Maritime institute put up an impressive overall performance in the sports events. They secured the first position and won the gold medal, showcasing their talent and skills. The football team played exceptionally well, securing the first position, while the volleyball team secured the third position. In the field events, the institute won the first prize in Discus and High jump, and the third prize in Shot put. In the track events, they won the first prize in the Long jump and 200 m race, and secured the second position in the 400 m relay race and 100 m race. The institute also dominated in indoor sports, winning the first prize in Badminton and Table Tennis. Although they secured the third position in the 800 m race, overall performance was commendable and demonstrated sportsmanship, hard work, and dedication to excellence.
International Maritime Institute was the center of attraction at the event as it presented itself as a leader in the maritime education sector. The Institute has been imparting quality education to its students for over two decades and has always been at the forefront of promoting a career in the maritime industry. The Institute’s dedication and commitment towards providing world-class education to its students was highly appreciated by the guests.
