This course is designed to provides you with essential knowledge and skills you need to prevent accidents at sea and respond to emergency situations with wit and presence of mind.
The course covers a range of topics including personal survival techniques, fire safety, fire fighting, elementary first aid and social responsibilities. It is a 12 days, post-sea course.
Personal survival techniques include knowledge of how to abandon ship, how to use life saving equipment and how to cope with cold water shock. Fire prevention and fire fighting are another crucial aspect of safety training. Fires at sea can be extremely dangerous and seafarers should know how to prevent them from happening in the first place, as well as how to fight fire if they do break out unfortunately. Social responsibilities are also addressed in this course. Seafarers need to understand their responsibilities towards other crew members and environment. They also need to be trained in keeping personal hygiene to avoid spread of diseases on board.
This course is designed to create awareness among seafarers, who specifically work on tankers carrying oil or chemicals, about safety procedures, cargo handling, pollution prevention and emergency response. This is a 6 day, post-sea course. Safety procedures are essential when working with hazardous materials and this course covers everything from personal safety equipment to safe operating practices.
Emergency response includes knowledge of how to proceed in the event of a spill or leak, as well as how to manage a fire or explosion. Pollution prevention is also a critical aspect of the course as seafarers need to understand the impact of their work on the environment and the need to prevent pollution of any kind.
This course is designed for you if you happen to work on ships carrying refrigerated cargo at any point in your career. The course covers a range of topics including principles of refrigeration, cargo handling and emergency response. This is a 3 days, post-sea course.
It is important for you to understand the principles of refrigeration in order to ensure that the cargo is stored at the appropriate temperature and conditions throughout the journey. Cargo handling helps you understand safe and effective methods of loading and unloading cargo on and off the ship. Emergency response covers the knowledge that you would require to proceed with in case of power failure or equipment malfunction as this could lead to damage of precious cargo in heavy bulk.
Refresher training for proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques is a STCW, Post sea course. The duration of the course is 1 day.
Personal survival techniques include knowledge of how to abandon ship, how to use life saving equipment and how to cope with cold water shock.
Basic training for ships using fuel within the IGF code is a DGS approved short term, post sea course. The duration of the course is 5 days. You are eligible for the course only if you have completed four Basic safety courses, under STCW Regulation VI/1 and section A-VI/. You are not required to undertake this course if you are already holding basic or advanced level Gas Tanker Cargo Endorsement.
Advanced training for ships using fuel covered within the IGF code is a DGS approved short term, post sea course. The duration of the course is 5 days. You are eligible for the course only if you have completed the four Basic safety courses, under STCW Regulation VI/1 and section A-VI/1 and holds as a minimum a Certificate of Proficiency as a Watch-keeping rating or a Certificate of Competency as an Officer on Watch. You should also hold a certificate of proficiency for Basic Training for ships using Fuels covered within the IGF Code.
STSDSD course
STSDSD stands for Shipboard Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties and it is a mandatory course for all seafarers who are designated to perform specific security duties on board a ship. It is a 12 days, post sea, STCW course. The STSDSD course covers a wide range of topics related to shipboard security and safety including Maritime security threats, the ISPS code (International Ship and Port facility Security code), security measures and procedures, emergency response and drills and the handling of dangerous goods. The course also covers the use of security alarm systems and access control systems.
