On 15th June 2024, the Expo Centre in Greater Noida buzzed with excitement as the International Maritime Institute (IMI) hosted the graduation ceremony for the 39th batch of DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science) and 16th batch of BTech (Marine Engineering) in the prestigious convention hall.
This event marked a significant milestone for the cadets, who completed rigorous academic and practical training. Their journey, marked by hard work, perseverance, and dedication, has meticulously prepared them to master navigation and understand maritime laws and safety protocols, equipping them for the challenges at sea.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of several dignitaries, including the Chief Guest, Shri Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Shipping, and Guest of Honour, Captain M. P. Bhasin, Managing Director of MSC Crewing Services. Among other notable personalities were Mr. Tushar Sharma from Fleet Management, Ms. Poonam Nagpal from MSC Ship Management Company, and the Chairman Sir, Captain Kohli, along with captain Saurabh Varshney, Head of Institute (HOI), proud parents and mentors.
The chief guest Shri Shyam Jagannathan and guest of honour Captain M. P. Bhasin were warmly welcomed at IMI (International Maritime Institute) and had the opportunity to visit both IMI campuses. During their visit, they interacted with the directors and staff, gaining insights into the institute’s operations and educational approach. They enjoyed a walk around the campus, witnessing firsthand the vibrant learning environment.
As a symbol of their commitment to the environment and future generations, the guests participated in a tree plantation ceremony before proceeding to the venue for the graduation ceremony.
On the arrival of the chief guest and guest of honour at the venue, the cadets warmly welcomed them. In keeping with tradition, the ceremony began with the auspicious lamp lighting ceremony. This symbolic act set the tone for an evening filled with pride, joy, and reflection on the journey undertaken by the cadets.
Captain Varshney, the HOI of IMI (International Maritime Institute), congratulated the cadets and shared words of wisdom and encouragement. His guidance was followed by insights from the Guest of Honour, Captain M. P. Bhasin, who emphasized the importance of perseverance and dedication in the maritime profession.
Captain M. P. Bhasin talked about the vast world of maritime adventure and the project ‘Sagar Main Yog’ that symbolizes the maritime industry’s commitment to promoting the well-being of seafarers. As seafaring continues to evolve, initiatives like these play a crucial role in nurturing the physical, mental, and emotional health of maritime professionals, ensuring their sustained contribution to the industry’s growth and prosperity.
The Chief Guest, Shri Shyam Jagannathan, delivered an inspiring speech, highlighting the critical role of maritime professionals in the global economy. He urged the cadets to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in their future endeavours. He took initiatives such as ‘Sagar Main Yog’ for seafarers’ well-being and skill development, alongside ‘Sagar Main Samman’ to honor women seafarers.
In a gesture of gratitude, Chairman Sir, Captain Kohli, presented shawls and mementos to the distinguished guests expressing appreciation for their presence and invaluable support.
The highlight of the evening was the award ceremony, where outstanding cadets were recognized for their exemplary achievements. Chief Engineer Arvind Aggrawal (Head of Department – Engineering) took the stage to highlight the accomplishments of the B Tech cadets, while Captain Pramod Kumar (Head of Department -Nautical), shared the achievements of the DNS batch. The applause echoed through the hall, celebrating the winners and their exceptional achievements.
Following the prize distribution, the cadets presented a cultural program featuring a play encouraging female seafarers, along with yoga, music, dance, and martial arts performances that enthralled the audience.
A melodious performance by Bhamini Sharma, daughter of Mr. Tushar Sharma, captivated the hearts of everyone present. Her soulful rendition set the tone for an unforgettable evening, with her enchanting voice and talent adding a special charm that left a lasting impression on the audience.
As the event came to a close, Captain Kalra took the stage to deliver the vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, participants, faculty members, and staff who contributed to the success of the Passing Out Ceremony.
