B.Tech 22 and DNS 45 Orientation Session at IMI

The International Maritime Institute (IMI), Greater Noida, warmly welcomed the cadets of BTech 22 and DNS 45 batches through a comprehensive Orientation Session. During the session, the freshers were introduced to IMI’s values, expectations, support systems, and opportunities that will shape their journey into maritime professionals.

The session commenced with an inspiring welcome address by Capt. Saurabh Varshney, Head of Institution (HOI), who congratulated the cadets on choosing a profession that is truly global in nature. Highlighting the maritime industry’s vital role in connecting nations and facilitating world trade, he emphasized that a career at sea offers responsibility, adventure, continuous learning, and limitless opportunities. He also acknowledged the cadets’ achievement in successfully navigating IMI’s rigorous admission process, securing their place among a select group chosen from thousands of applicants.

The HOI introduced the cadets to IMI’s rich legacy spanning over three decades and spoke about the institute’s commitment to developing competent, confident, and industry-ready maritime professionals. He also highlighted IMI’s association with The Caravel Group and Fleet Management Limited, opening pathways for practical learning and professional growth through industry exposure and onboard training opportunities.

Providing an overview of campus life, Registrar Mr. Sanjay Kumar Shukla familiarized the cadets with IMI’s facilities, residential environment, and administrative framework. He emphasized that the structured routines, hostel regulations, and code of conduct are designed to prepare cadets for the realities of shipboard life. Encouraging them to embrace discipline, responsibility, and professionalism, he reminded cadets that the habits developed during training would define their future careers at sea.

The orientation also included academic briefings by Vice Principal, C/E Rajesh Trivedi that outlined the training framework, expectations, and learning pathways that await the new cadets. Heads of Departments, C/E Arvind Agrawal (Engineering) and Capt. Umang Mathur (Pre Sea Nauticals) reinforced the importance of discipline, dedication, and adherence to professional standards as foundational qualities of successful seafarers. They outlined that code of conduct including attendance requirements, uniform standards, workshops/labs, shore leaves, watchkeeping guidelines etc.

Addressing the cadets on student wellbeing, Ms. Bani Bhalla introduced the Student Welfare Department and highlighted the institute’s commitment to supporting cadets beyond academics. She spoke about the importance of physical fitness, mental wellbeing, and emotional resilience, assuring cadets that support would always be available as they adjusted to campus life. She also encouraged participation in extracurricular activities, leadership initiatives, sports, and community engagement, emphasizing that some of life’s most valuable lessons are learned outside the classroom.

The session concluded with a strong message of growth, discipline, and opportunity. With aspirations set on the horizon and a clear course ahead, the cadets now begin their transformative training experience at IMI, taking the first steps towards becoming the next generation of maritime professionals.
