This 12 months course is offered to existing Graduates in Mechanical Engineering who want to change their career path to marine Engineering.
The course is duly approved the Directorate General of Shipping. The syllabi comprises of subject related to Marine engines and extensive workshop practices.
Candidates become eligible to take up a career at sea as a junior / trainee engineer after completing GME and mandatory STCW courses. After 6 months of sea service on board merchant vessels they become eligible to write Class IV Part ‘B’ examination (Class IV Part ‘A’ examination, being exempted on the strength of the Degree awarded). Thereafter a Class IV Certificate of Competency is awarded by the Mercantile Marine Department, Government of India.
Subsequently, they become Certified Engineer officers of Merchant Marine and are free to take up lucrative careers within the Shipping industry world-wide.

Candidate must be medically fit including eye sight and hearing as prescribed in the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000, as amended. Candidates will be required to produce a certificate of medical fitness issued by doctors approved by the Directorate General of Shipping. Normal color vision shall be tested by Ishihara Test Chart. Distance Vision unaided 0.5*(6/12) in each eye or 0.67*(6/9) in the better eye and 0.33*(6/18) in another eye.
IMI undertakes Aptitude, IQ, Reasoning and Psychometric tests followed an interview. Direct sponsorship by shipping companies is also accepted. Cost of Prospectus and Application Form Rs.2000/-, which can be obtained through D/D favouring INTERNATIONAL MARITIME INSTITUTE payable at Delhi.
