The Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) is a DG Shipping-approved Merchant Navy course designed for students seeking a structured entry into navigation and ship operations. Recognised as one of the most preferred pathways after Class 12 (PCM), the DNS course combines academic knowledge with practical maritime training required to begin a career at sea.

The programme covers navigation, seamanship, cargo operations, ship stability, maritime regulations, and safety management. Through a well-balanced approach that includes classroom learning, simulator-based exercises, and practical exposure, cadets develop the competence required to operate efficiently onboard modern Shipping vessels.

Designed in line with international maritime training standards, the DNS course prepares candidates for progressive certification and global career opportunities. Graduates begin as Deck Cadets and can advance towards Third Officer, Chief Officer, and ultimately Master Mariner (Captain), with experience and further qualifications.

With the continued growth of global shipping, the demand for trained deck officers remains strong, making DNS a reliable and career-focused choice within the Merchant Navy sector.

The person holding CoC can work on any FG Merchant Ship as Second Mate.
