Celebrating the Success of Future Mariners: International Maritime Institute’s Passing Out Ceremony

On June 3, 2023, the International Maritime Institute (IMI) held its highly anticipated Passing Out Ceremony at the Convention Hall, located on the second floor of Expo Centre, Greater Noida. This grand event marked the culmination of the rigorous training and education of the 37th batch of DNS program, comprising 119 Deck Cadets. Additionally, it celebrated the achievements of the 15th Batch of 4-year B Tech Marine Engineering, consisting of 36 Engine Cadets, and the 37th Batch of GME, comprising 20 Engine Cadets. The ceremony was a testament to the dedication and hard work of these young mariners who are poised to make their mark in the maritime industry.

The Passing Out Ceremony at IMI was a momentous occasion filled with joy, pride, and anticipation. The Convention Hall was abuzz with excitement as esteemed dignitaries, respected teachers, fellow cadets, proud parents, and staff members gathered to witness the cadets’ transition into the professional world.

The ceremony began with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony, symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment. The chief guest, Captain Rajendra Kumar Poswal, along with the guest of honor, Miss Poonam Nagpal, Chairman Captain Ashok Kohli, and Mr. Tushar Sharma, DGM from Fleet Management Limited, graced the stage to light the lamp, invoking the blessings of Maa Saraswati.

The event progressed with the presentation of bouquets to the chief guest and the guest of honor. The heartfelt gestures expressed gratitude for their presence and support.

The heads of departments took the stage to present batch reports for the B Tech Marine Engineering, DNS, and GME programs. Captain Arvind Aggrawal, HOD Engineering, highlighted the accomplishments of the B Tech and GME cadets, while Captain Pramod Kumar, HOD Nautical, shared the achievements of the DNS batch.

The ceremony also witnessed the release of a book authored by Mr. Atul Kumar Gupta, a renowned professor at IMI. The book, focused on Marine Auxiliary Systems and Deck Machinery, was unveiled by Mr. Atul Kumar Gupta himself and all the guest present at the ceremony 

Captain Saurabh Varshney, the esteemed Head of the Institute (HOI) at IMI, took the stage to inspire the passing out cadets with his insightful words. His wisdom and guidance resonated with the audience, leaving a lasting impression on the young mariners and fill them with energy to carry with them to the journey ahead. He also thanked chief guest Capt Rajendra Poswal & Mrs Poswal and Guest of honour,Mr Tushar sharma from Fleet ship and Mrs Poonam Nagpal form MSC and other dignitary from various shipping companies. 

The ceremony further included the distribution of prizes to acknowledge the outstanding performances of the cadets. Captain Arvind Aggarwal announced the winners for the B Tech and GME programs, while Captain Pramod Kumar felicitated the DNS batch. The applause echoed through the hall, celebrating the winners and their exceptional achievements.

Captain Rajendra Kumar Poswal, the chief guest, delivered a stirring speech filled with words of motivation and encouragement. Drawing from his vast experience in the maritime industry, he inspired the cadets to strive for excellence and embark on their professional journeys with determination.

To express appreciation for their presence and support, Chairman Captain Ashok Kohli presented mementos to the chief guest, the guest of honor. The gesture acknowledged their valuable contributions to the ceremony

The Passing Out Ceremony at IMI not only celebrated academic achievements but also showcased the vibrant talents of the cadets. The cultural program was a mesmerizing display of music, dance, and artistic expressions that left the audience enthralled.

Melodious performance by Bhamini Sharma, daughter of Mr. Tushar Sharma. Her soulful rendition captivated the hearts of everyone present, setting the tone for an unforgettable evening. Her enchanting voice and talent added a special charm to the evening, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

The stage was lit up by the cultural program’s mesmerising dance, passionate singing, and expressive mime performance, which had a water conservation theme. Beatboxing skills and martial arts demonstration astounded everyone, IMI scadet’s brilliance shone magnificently. It showcased the immense talent and diversity within the cadet community, making the Passing Out Ceremony an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. It served as a reminder of the holistic education and nurturing environment provided by IMI, shaping not only skilled mariners but also well-rounded individuals.

As the event came to a close, Vice-Principal Chief Engineer Rajesh Trivedi took the stage to deliver the vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, participants, faculty members, and staff who contributed to the success of the Passing Out Ceremony.
