B.Tech (Marine) – Degree Course

IMI is the only maritime institute in North India amongst many B tech marine engineering colleges in India which conducts this 4-year degree course affiliated to Indian Maritime University (IMU) Chennai.

This course is duly recognised and approved by the Directorate General of Shipping and AICTE.

Candidates become eligible to take up a career at sea as a junior / trainee engineer after completing B.Tech( Marine) and mandatory STCW courses. After 6 months of sea service on board merchant vessels, they become eligible to write Class IV Part ‘B’ examination (Class IV Part ‘A’ examination, being exempted on the strength of the Degree awarded). Thereafter a Class IV Certificate of Competency is awarded by the Mercantile Marine Department, Government of India.

Subsequently, they become Certified Engineer officers of Merchant Marine and are free to take up lucrative careers within the Shipping industry world-wide.

The minimum criteria for selection of B Tech Marine Engineering candidates at FLEET are:

• Age: 25 years or lesser on the date of selection
• Education:
• • 12th cleared within preceding 5 Years from date of selection
  • Minimum Physics-Chemistry-Maths (PCM) marks in 12th Std: 70 % (improvement exam results will not be considered).
  • Minimum English score in 12th Std: 70 % (improvement exam results will not be considered).
  • Not more than two years difference in the year of passing 10th and 12th exams, respectively.
  • The Marine Engineering graduation aggregate score not less than 70% or 7 CGPA
• Physical Criteria:
• • Height: Minimum 160 centimetres.
  • BMI: not more than 25.
  • Speech and hearing ability to be within normal range.
  • Eyesight 6/9 un-aided and 6/6 with aid and no colour blindness.
• Selection Process:
  • Computer based Test as created by FMTI
  • Personal Interview by appropriate panel
  • Medical as per applicable standards & Psychometric tests.

Procedure for Admission

The admission process for enrolment in a B.Tech Marine Engineering Course varies from college to college. In IMI the standard admission process involves these steps.

2. Step 2: Sponsorship / Placement Exam & Interview by FML
3. Step 3: Psychometric test and Interview by FML
4. Step 4: Medical fitness examination by DGS approved doctor

Additionally, the candidate should clear the IMUCET exam (current year).
